Downer awarded $100m NBN contract
The news: Downer EDI has been awarded a $100 million contract by NBN to expand the government-owned telco's broadband network in large parts of Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory and New South Wales.
The numbers: Downer said the contract has an estimated value of more than $100 million over an initial three-year term. The contract begins in October and includes a two-year extension option.
The context: Under the agreement, Downer will expand NBN's network through network extension and the connection of full fibre technology to businesses across Australia.
The works will include network inspection and minor design activities, underground pit and pipe works, and construction of aerial or underground fibre.
Sydney-based Downer, a leading provider of integrated services in Australia and New Zealand, is already one of the largest constructors and maintainers of NBN's network.
What they said: Downer CEO Peter Tompkins said: "This contract reinforces Downer's position as a key long-term NBN delivery partner".
"Downer has been working closely with NBN for more than a decade and we look forward to continuing our partnership and optimising the NBN network to support the success of businesses across Australia," he said.
