DroneShield appoints Michael Powell as chief operating officer

The news: DroneShield has appointed Michael Powell as its new chief operating officer, effective on 9 February. He moves from Thales where he was general manager for secure communications and information systems and an operations director.
The context: Powell replaces incumbent Nathan Vardanega who will move into a chief delivery officer role focused on customer facing and program execution activities.
Powell has more than 25 years of experience across defence, aerospace, secure communication, simulation, railway and critical infrastructure markets according to DroneShield.
This includes several senior roles at French multinational defence firm Thales as managing director of train braking systems manufacturer Knorr-Bresme.
His appointment comes as DroneShield aims to expand its activity in Europe and the United States.
What they said: “Michael is a proven operator with deep experience delivering complex programs at global scale. As demand for counter-UAS capability continues to accelerate, his leadership will be instrumental in ensuring DroneShield scales with discipline, resilience, and a relentless focus on customer outcomes,” said DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik.
