DroneShield shares surge as it makes senior appointments

The news: DroneShield shares gained on the ASX as the defence tech company announced a flurry of senior executive and advisory appointments.

The numbers: DroneShield shares were up 8.3% to 78.5 cents by 11:30am AEDT, having more than doubled in value since January.

The context: The company appointed Terry van Haren as vice president of strategy. Van Haren spent 35 years in the Royal Australian Air Force as a commander, fighter pilot and weapons officer and most recently served as air and space attaché to the US.

DroneShield has also hired retired Australian Army major general Fergus McLachlan and defence sector veteran Kym Osley as strategic advisors. Former government adviser Kacey Lam-Evans has been appointed DroneShield's government affairs director.

What they said: Commenting on the appointments, DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik said: "They are world class talent, coming at this important time as counterdrone threats are rapidly growing around the world".

"They will be involved in ongoing positioning of DroneShield as a pre-eminent defence technology company in Australia and globally."
