Elders names Fonterra's René Dedoncker as next CEO

The news: Agriculture and real estate group Elders has appointed former Fonterra executive René Dedoncker as its new chief executive, starting 1 October.

The context: Dedoncker spent about 20 years at Fonterra, including serving as managing director for Australia and managing director, global market consumer.

Elders CEO Mark Ellison, who has led the company for more than a decade, will remain in the role until October.

What they said: "... Mark has steered the company through significant industry cycles and ensured Elders' continued growth and resilience," said Elders chair Glenn Davis.

"Mark oversaw the development and and implementation of strategic plans that returned the company to pureplay agribusiness and, in 2017, resumption of dividends after an 8-year hiatus."
