The news: Elon Musk’s X has hired entrepreneur Nikita Bier as the platform’s new head of product, giving a relentless X user and former public critic a senior role atop one of the most widely used social apps in the world.
Bier posted on X, “I’m joining @X as Head of Product” on 1 July 2025, and Musk quoted his post welcoming him to the team.
The context: Bier previously tweeted at Musk in 2022, floating himself as a candidate for the product role after Musk acquired Twitter for USD44 billion. Then in 2023, Bier criticised Musk’s product changes at then Twitter and publicly offered to pay $100 to revert the platform back to its pre-acquisition version.
He has since worked as a part-time adviser to xAI since October last year.
Bier is known for building viral social products, including polling startup TBH, which he sold to Facebook in 2017, and the teen-focused social network Gas, sold to Discord in 2023.
