Elon Musk to fund US$45m a month to Trump political group: WSJ
The news: Billionaire Elon Musk has committed donating to a political group working to elect Donald Trump as the next US President, the Wall Street Journal has reported.
The numbers: Musk plans to commit around USD45 million ($66.68 million) a month to a new super political action committee — called America PAC — backing Trump’s presidential run, the report said quoting unnamed people familiar with the matter.
The context: Other backers of the political group include Palantir Technologies, the Winklevoss twins, former US ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband, coal producer Alliance Resource Partners CEO Joe Craft.
Musk, who has repeatedly criticised Trump’s rival candidate, US President Joe Biden, had previously said he would not donate money to either candidate for US President, as well as reports that there had been talks over a potential advisory role for him in any Trump presidency.
