Former APRA chair Wayne Byres joins ASX board
The news: Former Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) chair Wayne Byres is joining the board of the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) as a non-executive director.
The numbers: Byres was chair APRA for eight years until 2022 and also served on the Reserve Bank of Australia’s payments system board and was a member of the Australian Council of Financial Regulators. Prior to APRA he served as secretary general to the Basel Committee on banking supervision.
In February 2024, he was appointed as a non-executive director of Macquarie Bank.
The context: ASX chair Damian Roche said Byres appointment was part of the board renewal program and that the board looked forward to drawing on his deep financial services and regulatory expertise that spanned more than 30 years.
ASX also confirmed non-executive director Yasmin Allen would retire from the board at the conclusion of the September board meeting. She was first appointed to the ASX board in February 2015.
