The news: Fortescue has confirmed it has been served with a class action in the Federal Court, following accusations relating to workplace matters, including alleged sexual harassment and discrimination between 1 February 2006 and 5 December 2025.

The context: This follows allegations from several female employees of widespread sexual harassment and assault targeting them and other women at the company’s remote fly-in, fly-out work sites.

The class action was filed in the Victorian registry of the Federal Court by law firm JGA Saddler and is backed by UK litigation funder Aristata. It alleges systemic sexual harassment, sexual violence and sex discrimination across the company’s operations, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Fortescue chief executive Dino Ontranto said it would be inappropriate to comment on the specific allegations while the matter is heard before the courts.

Fortescue told the exchange that the proceedings are at an early stage and the compensation amount remains unspecified. The company stated it remains committed to providing a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace.
