Future Fund CIO Ben Samild to leave for Middle East role

The news: The Future Fund’s chief investment officer Ben Samild will leave to join a “major institutional investor in the Middle East”, according to a statement.

The context: Samild joined the Future Fund in 2013 and has served as CIO since August 2023. He has previously served in deputy CIO roles.

Deputy CIO Hugh Murray has been appointed interim CIO and will be supported by Samild to facilitate a smooth transition.

Prior to joining the Future Fund, Samild was head of investment strategy at LUCRF Super, which is now a part of AustralianSuper.

What they said: “I want to thank Ben for the significant contribution he has made to the Future Fund over a period that has witnessed wide-ranging changes across the investment landscape,” Future Fund chief executive Raphael Arndt.

Arndt also said: “Hugh is an experienced investor who has played a leading role in our investment team over the last 14 years and has deep knowledge and commitment to our investment approach”.
