G8 Education shares drop as accused childcare abuser linked to another centre
The news: G8 Education shares extended recent losses today after the early childhood and care provider confirmed that former employee Joshua Brown — accused of sexually abusing children at its Creative Garden centre — also worked at another of its centres.
The numbers: G8 shares were down 2.7% to 89 cents at 2pm AEST, having shed 24% since Victoria Police first released information about the case on 1 July.
The context: After market closed on Tuesday, G8 said Brown also worked at its World of Learning centre in the Melbourne suburb of Point Cook for one day on 24 August.
Brown has been charged with 70 offences relating to eight victims, including sexual assault and producing child abuse material. Police now believe Brown worked at 23 childcare centres across Victoria.
G8 also confirmed on Tuesday that Brown was the subject of two internal investigations during his employment with the company between 2021 and 2024.
The allegations in those investigations were notified to Victoria Police, the Commission for Children and Young People, and the Department of Education. G8 said those investigations were unrelated to the charges Brown is now facing.
