The news: Law firm Gilbert + Tobin will integrate banking and finance specialists Wright Legal into its practice from 1 April 2024.
The numbers: Founded in 2001 by former Freehills partner Paul Wright, Perth-based Wright Legal is a boutique banking and finance practice in Western Australia. It is now managed by directors Trish Chapman and Dom McGreal.
Gilbert + Tobin has expanded activity in WA in recent years, with partner numbers in the state up 60% compared to three years ago.
The context: Gilbert + Tobin has previously worked with Wright Legal on several deals in WA. The firm said it hopes the merger will bolster its capacity in WA, which it sees as a rapidly growing market, with a particular focus on the energy, minings, and infrastructure and metals sectors.
