Gold stocks lead gains on ASX
The news: Gold miners led gains in morning trade on the ASX, extending advances from last week.
The numbers: Gold stocks West African Resources (3%), Bellevue Gold (2.9%) and Regis Resources made up the three of the top four performing companies across the ASX 200 by 12:10pm AEDT.
Materials, up 0.56%, was the third best performing sector as the wider market rose 0.3%.
Spot bullion edged down 0.41% to USD2,645.64 ($3,931.12) an ounce.
The context: Regis Resource and West African both continued to rise, having been buoyed last week by their respective third-quarter results.
Gold bullion prices have climbed in recent weeks, boosted by escalating conflict in the Middle East and the prospect of lower interest rates in the US.
