The news: Grant Thornton Australia has appointed Said Jahani as its new CEO, taking over from Greg Keith in July.

The numbers: Jahani has been a member of the firm’s executive leadership team for several years, as managing partner of the financial advisory division. 20 of his 28 years of professional experience have been with Grant Thornton.

Jahani will lead Grant Thornton’s team of over 1,500 people and 172 Partners across six offices nationally.

The context: Late last year, the incumbent CEO made headlines after lamenting the time employees take to grab a coffee during the work day: “It’s taken them 30 minutes or 40 minutes to get a coffee. That’s just a huge waste of time and efficiency,” Keith said.

The comments came amid a broader discussion around efficiency and streamlining in accounting and consulting services, as revenue across the Australian big four firms continues to wane.

Under Keith's leadership, Grant Thornton permanently adopted a nine-day fortnight in efforts to retain talent.

What they said: In a statement on the appointment, Jahani said: “Stepping into the CEO role is truly an honour and I embrace the responsibility of guiding Grant Thornton into this new era…Moving forward, I'll build upon our tremendous achievements, fostering an environment where both our exceptional clients and remarkable team members can thrive.”
