Honda recalls 2.5m cars due to fuel pump failure
The news: Honda has launched a recall of 2.5 million cars and SUVs in the US which have been identified as being at risk due to a fuel pump failure.
The numbers: The recall affects 20 Honda models produced between 2017 and 2020, including the Accord, CR-V, Civic, Odyssey, Acura MDX and Acura TLX.
The context: A document published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explains that the fuel pump failure can cause an engine to stall while the car is being driven, increasing the risk of crash. Honda dealers will replace the fuel pump modules of recalled cars free of charge.
Earlier this week Toyota announced a recall of 1.12 million vehicles over concerns over potential faulty airbags, and Daihatsu suspended all vehicle shipments after a probe found that it had carried out improper safety testing on 64 models.
