The news: Critical minerals miner IGO has appointed Vanessa Guthrie to its board, effective 1 December 2025, before she succeeds outgoing chair Michael Nossal who steps down on 1 January 2026.

The context: Guthrie is also a director of Santos, Lynas Rare Earths and Orica. She is Curtin University’s chancellor and deputy chair of Cricket Australia.

She was previously the chair of the Minerals Council of Australia between 2013 and 2018.

The appointment is part of IGO’s board renewal and succession plan first announced on 27 June 2025. At the time, the company said IGO would reduce the total size of the board, transition the chair role and recruit new directors.

What they said: “It has been an honour and privilege to serve on IGO’s board for the last five years during which time the company has seen many changes,” IGO chair Michael Nossal said.

Nossal also said that the board is “delighted to be able to attract a chair-elect of the quality of Dr Guthrie”. “She is a highly credentialed director and brings extensive experience and skills to the board.”
