Infratil agrees $407m selldown in Contact Energy
The news: Infrastructure investor Infratil has agreed to sell a 5% stake in New Zealand energy retailer and producer Contact Energy, expecting gross proceeds of around NZD495 million ($407 million).
The numbers: The sale will reduce Infratil’s holdings in Contact to around 9.1%.
The context: Infratil said it “remains supportive” of Contact and has committed to retaining its remaining shares through to “at least” the company’s FY26 full-year results in August.
What they said: “We received our initial stake in Contact as part of the sale of Manawa Energy in July 2025 and we remain confident in Contact and the sector’s outlook,” said Infratil CEO Jason Boyes.
“While we have no immediate funding requirements and our divestment programme is on track, we consider it prudent to reposition this capital now. This means we’re well prepared to support future growth opportunities across our portfolio.
