JB Hi-Fi will refund customers after ACCC flagged misleading price claims
The news: JB Hi-Fi will refund about 200 customers following an ACCC investigation that raised concerns the electronics retailer may have misled consumers with some of the listed promotional prices.
The context: JB Hi-Fi will refund more than $250,000 in relation to the ACCC’s allegations about misleading price claims across several products, including two laptops, a VR headset and a gaming monitor.
The ACCC alleges that 17 products were allegedly discounted from a previous higher price that the products were “either never offered for sale at the higher price, or only offered at the higher price for a short period, or only offered at the higher price long before the promotion”.
During the investigation period, 11 of the 17 items were sold at the alleged misleading price to a total of 206 consumers.
The ACCC monitored JB Hi-Fi’s online product pricing between March and September 2025, with the allegedly misleading discounts “largely due to system errors or human error, some of which JB Hi-Fi proactively took action on prior to the ACCC’s investigation”.
No further enforcement action will be taken by the ACCC.
What they said: “It is critical that businesses ensure that pricing information provided to consumers is accurate, and that discount deals are genuine,” ACCC commissioner Luke Woodward said.
“We will not hesitate to take appropriate action when we see evidence of breaches of the Australian Consumer Law.”
