Job ads fell 0.4% in March, AI-related roles surge 75.1% over 12 months: Seek
The news: Seek’s latest employment report showed that job advertisements fell 0.4% month-on-month in March and 2.9% year on year.
However, advertised salary growth rose 0.4% for the month, bringing the annual salary increase to 4.1%.
The context: The Seek employment report highlighted a 75.1% year-on-year surge in job ads referencing AI-related skills, particularly for roles in marketing and communications.
Following the decline in job advertisements, applications per job ad also fell by 0.5%. However, there was a significant spike in interest for the education and training industry, which recorded a 27.4% annual uptick in applications.
The Seek advertised salary index showed that March recorded the fastest monthly salary growth since August 2024, with annual advertised growth accelerating to 4.1%.
What they said: "Given the events that have played out globally over the past month this slight moderation is unsurprising,” Seek chief economist Blair Chapman said.
“We can expect this increased uncertainty to have employers feeling a little more cautious in the near term until a clearer view of the situation emerges,” he added.
