The news: JP Morgan Chase & Co is hiring HSBC’s global head of mergers and acquisitions, Kamal Jabre, as vice chair of M&A to help expand its EMEA business, according to media reports.

The context: An internal memo seen by Bloomberg says that Jabre will work closely with JP Morgan’s coverage teams and partner with its financial sponsors, natural resources and Middle East and North Africa groups.

Earlier this year, HSBC announced that it plans to wind down parts of its investment banking operations amid an expansive restructure, prompting a number of senior execs to depart the bank.

Prior to his seven-year stint at HSBC, Jabre spent 22 years at Morgan Stanley, rising to head the financial sponsors group for EMEA.

Alongside Jabre, the JP Morgan has also named insider Marc Pandraud as M&A vice chair. Pandraud joined JP Morgan from Deutsche Bank in 2016,
