Judge rules Google will not have to sell Chrome or Android
The news: Google will not have to sell off its Chrome browser or Android, a US antitrust ruling has found, according to media reports citing court documents.
But the federal judge barred the company from making exclusive contracts for Google Search, Chrome, Google Assistant and the Gemini app, and ordered it to share search data with competitors, according to the reports.
US District Judge Amit Mehta wrote that prosecutors overreached in seeking forced divestiture.
The context: The decision follows his finding last year that Google violated US antitrust law by maintaining a monopoly in search.
The numbers: Alphabet shares rose more than 6% in after-hours trading.
