Justin Langer quits MinRes board due to coaching commitments
The news: Mining group Mineral Resources has announced the resignation of independent non-executive director Justin Langer.
The numbers: Langer, who joined the board in January 2023, will depart on 6 August.
The context: MinRes said Langer — an ex-cricketer and former coach of the Australia men's national team — has been appointed to two coaching positions that require him to be overseas for extended periods.
Langer was appointed head coach of London Spirit in England's The Hundred competition earlier this year, in addition to his role as head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
Langer is also a public speaker, a Seven Network cricket commentator, a columnist with The West Australian, and a member of the West Coast Eagles board.
MinRes' new chair Malcolm Bundey said the board is continuing the process to appoint additional non-executive directors with the assistance of external advisors. Last month, Bundey told investors that he was reviewing the transition process for managing director and CEO Chris Ellison following a series of scandals late last year.
What they said: "With my expanding commitments both in Australia and overseas, I am not in a position to continue to give the time and focus that I believe MinRes deserves," Langer said in an ASX release.
Ellison commented: "I thank Justin for the valuable contribution he has made during his time at MinRes. His passion and willingness to share his experience has had a truly positive impact on the business."
"He made it a priority to visit many of our sites across Western Australia, meeting with frontline employees and hearing firsthand what matters most to the people who drive our success," he said.
