Kelly Bayer Rosmarin quits as Optus boss
The news: Optus chief executive Kelly Bayer Rosmarin has tendered her resignation less than two weeks after a nationwide outage that left millions without mobile reception and internet coverage.
The numbers: Optus has appointed chief financial officer Michael Venter interim chief executive while it searches for a new boss. Venter has been Optus' CFO since 2021. Bayer Rosmarin became Optus' CEO in April 2020 in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The context: Bayer Rosmarin's announcement came days after she fronted a Senate inquiry into the outage. There she was grilled about the company's handling of the incident after she was initially criticised for poor communication and failing to explain its cause to the public.
What they said: "Having now had time for some personal reflection, I have come to the decision that my resignation is in the best interest of Optus moving forward,” Bayer Rosmarin said in a statement. “It’s been an honour and privilege to lead the team at Optus and to serve our customers. I am proud of the team’s many achievements, and grateful for the support of the Optus team, Moon, and the Group.
"Kelly has always led with integrity and had all stakeholders’ best interests at heart," Singtel Group CEO Yuen Kuan Moon said in a media release. "We understand her decision and wish her the very best in her future endeavours."
