The news: Retail and services group Kogan.com non-executive director James Spenceley has resigned effective immediately to focus on his “growing personal and humanitarian interests”.
The context: Spenceley was the founder and former CEO of telco Vocus and is stepping down to focus on his “growing personal and humanitarian interests, which have substantially increased” the time he spends outside of Australia.
Spenceley previously stepped down as chair of gig economy platform Airtasker in 2023 to focus on his aid organisation Aus Ukraine Aid, which sources and delivers second hand ambulances to Ukraine.
Spenceley joined the Kogan.com board in March 2021. He has served as the chair of the remuneration and nomination committee and has also been a member of the audit and risk management committee. He is also a councillor for St Leonards Ward of North Sydney Council.
What they said: “James’ contribution, drawing from his considerable business and entrepreneurial experiences, has been invaluable,” Kogan.com chair Greg Ridder said.
“As chair of the remuneration and nomination committee, he has been instrumental in our board renewal process, recently overseeing the recruitment of three quality independent non-executive directors.”
