The news: News Corp chairman Lachlan Murdoch, has met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, signalling his support for the nation’s fight against Russia.

The numbers: Nearly 21 months after Putin's invasion, Ukraine remains locked in a stalemate with Russia, while Ukrainians fear the Israel-Hamas war will take western support away from its struggle.

The context: The eldest son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who formally took control of News Corp last week, flew to Ukraine over the weekend, alongside Fox News journalist Benjamin Hall and The Sun journalist Jerome Starkey. In March, Lachlan Murdoch was reported to have spoken with Zelensky and other Ukrainian government officials via Zoom.

What they said: President Zelensky said in a statement that Murdoch's visit sent a "very important signal" at a time when international media is turning its attention to the Middle East.
