Liontown Resources secures first digital spot sales from Kathleen Valley
The news: Lithium producer Liontown Resources has completed the first digital spot sales auction for spodumene concentrate from its Kathleen Valley mine.
The numbers: Liontown invited global buyers to participate in its inaugural online auction for 10,000 wet metric tonnes of spodumene concentrate, for loading in January 2026.
During the auction on the Metalshub platform — which Liontown partnered with last week — the miner secured a winning bid of USD1,254 ($1,935) per dry metric tonne for SC6.0-equivalent product.
The auction attracted over 50 qualified buyers from nine countries.
The context: Liontown said it plans to hold further online auctions on the Metalshub platform in 2026 and beyond, as part of ongoing operations.
What they said: “This is an outstanding result and a clear validation of our strategy,” said Liontown's managing director and CEO Tony Ottaviano.
“Today’s outcome demonstrates the market is improving and buyers have the confidence to engage competitively when given a fair and open platform.”
