The news: Macquarie Asset Management has launched Aula Energy, an onshore renewable energy business designed to attract long-term investment capital. Aula Energy plans to develop, build and operate utility-scale wind, solar and integrated battery projects across Australia and New Zealand.

The numbers: An initial portfolio with an expected capacity of 4 gigawatts of planned projects can support the energy transition by helping boost renewable energy capacity in the grid, Macquarie said. The estimate is based on current planned projects and 100% generating capacity of each project. The initial total investment cost is around $10 billion, Macquarie told the Australian Financial Review.

The context: Aula Energy's expected portfolio includes developments in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, the details of which will be announced as they progress. The platform is the latest in Macquarie Asset Management’s suite of specialist businesses contributing to the energy transition.
