Macquarie Group adds ex-Santander UK chair William Vereker to board

The news: Macquarie Group has appointed London-based William Vereker as an independent non-executive director of the company, effective 1 February 2026.
The context: Vereker is currently a non-executive director of London Stock Exchange Group, and served as chair of Santander UK from 2020 until August this year.
He is also a member of the investment committee of UK fund manager Delancey Real Estate Credit Fund and an advisory board member of German data processing company Celonis. He previously held executive roles at JP Morgan, UBS and Morgan Stanley, and was business envoy to the UK Prime Minister between 2018 and 2019.
Vereker's appointment, which remains subject to certain approvals, will see Macquarie's board grow to nine members.
