The news: Business turnover rebounded in August, with eight of 13 industries seeing improvements on July numbers, according to ABS data.

The numbers: Manufacturing recorded the biggest uptick, lifting turnover by 6.4% after falling 4.1% the month before. Arts and recreation (+6.0%) and retail trade (+3.6%) also posted solid gains in August. Year on year, 10 of the 13 industries boosted incomes, led by construction, which gained 19.2% since August 2022.

What they said: "The 6.4 per cent rise in turnover for Manufacturing can be largely attributed to primary metal and metal product manufacturers, led by businesses involved in precious metal production," ABS head of business statistics Robert Ewing said in a statement.

"Transport equipment manufacturers also contributed to the rise."
