The news: Jewellery chain Michael Hill International has named CFO Andrew Lowe as its interim chief executive officer following the sudden death of Daniel Bracken last week.

The numbers: Lowe will assume the position with immediate effect. He joined the executive team in 2017 as chief financial officer and recently also assumed charge of the supply chain.

The context: Lowe will hold the position while the board conducts a global search for a replacement CEO. The move comes after Bracken unexpectedly died as a result of an adverse reaction to treatment for an underlying medical condition. He had been CEO since 2018.

The company also appointed director Claudia Batten as deputy chair of the board.

“Following Daniel’s passing, the board is confident in Andrew’s ability to steer the Michael Hill Group through this period of transition drawing on his extensive strategic, financial and operational experience,” chair Rob Fyfe said.
