Musk’s X teams with Visa to power digital payments
The news: Elon Musk's X has announced a partnership with Visa to support its new X Money digital wallet and peer-to-peer payment service.
Visa Direct will facilitate real-time fund transfers, enabling users to load wallets, link debit cards, and transfer money to bank accounts, CEO Linda Yaccarino said in a social media post.
She described the partnership as the first of several significant announcements for X Money in 2025.
Musk has positioned the service – which according to a CNBC source is expected in Q1 2025 – as part of his broader vision for X as an "everything app," expanding its financial capabilities.
The numbers: X has been securing money transmitter licences across over 40 US states via X Payments, CNBC noted.
App researchers have found code suggesting X Money will allow creators to accept payments and store funds, though it may not launch in all US states initially.
Visa declined to comment.
What they said: “Another milestone for the Everything App: @Visa is our first partner for the @XMoney Account, which will debut later this year,” Yaccarino said, before listing some of the expected features.
“💰Allows for secure + instant funding to your X Wallet via Visa Direct, 🪪 Connects to your debit card allowing P2P payments. 🏦 Option to instantly transfer funds to your bank account. First of many big announcements about X Money this year.”
