The news: ASX-listed hotels and liquor group Endeavour has chosen Myer chair Ari Mervis to lead the organisation as part of a board reshuffle. Mervis will in April replace the retiring CEO Peter Hearl, who has guided Endeavour since the Woolworths demerger in 2021.

The context: Endeavour owns the ALH Hotels business, BWS and Dan Murphy's liquor stores, the Jimmy Brings delivery service and other liquor brands. Mervis is expected to continue as chairman of Myer as well as beauty and personal care group McPherson's. Joining as a director will be former Goodman Fielder CEO Peter Margin. Meanwhile, director Bruce Mathieson junior will retire from the board on 30 June at the latest. Major shareholder BMG will nominate a replacement.

What they said: Hearl welcomed Mervis and Margin. "Our focus on a deliberate and comprehensive process for board renewal has secured experienced and respected company directors. Ari and Peter's nomination completes the first phase of our board renewal process and future director appointments will be overseen by the new chairman-elect," he said.
