Myer names Ari Mervis as new chair

The news: Ari Mervis will take over as chair at Myer, replacing JoAnne Stephenson who is retiring after seven years on the board.

The numbers: The change will take effect at the conclusion of Myer's AGM on 9 November.

The context: Mervis is currently a non-executive director and former SABMiller managing director for the APAC region, and was responsible for the company's takeover of Carlton and United Breweries. In a statement, Myer's board said it was focused on broadening its skills and experience, and has nominated Qantas' loyalty program chief Olivia Wirth and Ardent Leisure, Cromwell Property and Estia Health chair Gary Weiss as independent non-executive directors.
