The news: Australia's National Cyber Security Coordinator, Air Marshal Darren Goldie has been recalled to Defence to deal with a "workplace matter" related to his time in Defence.

The context: Darren Goldie, a long-serving senior Air Force officer, was appointed Australia's first national cyber security co-ordinator in July, following a string of major data breaches affecting millions of Australians. Goldie is currently on leave, according to a statement issued by Defence Media, which says it is inappropriate to comment further while the matter is under consideration. "The welfare of our people remains our priority and it is requested that Air Marshal Goldie’s privacy is respected at this time," the statement said.

Minister for Home Affairs Clare O'Neil said in a statement that Home Affairs Deputy Secretary of Cyber and Infrastructure Security Hamish Hansford will act as National Cyber Security Coordinator in the interim.
