Neuren shares rise on encouraging drug trial
The news: Shares in Neuren Pharmaceuticals have jumped after the company said phase two clinical trials of its drug candidate to treat neurological disorders have shown encouraging results.
The numbers: Neuren said the phase two clinical trial of its second drug candidate, NNZ-2591 in children, for the treatment of Pitt Hopkins syndrome showed positive results, with statistically significant improvement across all four efficacy measures.
Neuren shares were up 6.5% to $22.05 on the news in early trading.
The context: Neuren said the trial result further strengthened confidence in the dug's potential relevance for multiple neurodevelopmental disorders. The company is developing NNZ-2591 for multiple seriously debilitating neurological disorders that emerge in early childhood and have no or limited approved treatment options.
What they said: “We are very excited about the results of this first clinical trial in Pitt Hopkins patients. This underserved community has such urgent unmet need and we can now continue towards our goal of developing a first approved treatment,” Neuren CEO Jon Pilcher said.
