The news: The US House of Representatives has introduced a bipartisan bill directing US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) to establish a USD20 million ($28 million) pilot program utilising 4D lung imaging software to screen for and identify respiratory diseases among veterans.

The context: This follows a congressional committee report that urged the VA to use existing imaging equipments, including 4DMedical’s lung imaging model, for population-wide surveillance of veterans exposed to airborne hazards.

If the bill is enacted, the VA will seek an agreement to license an eligible 4D lung imaging software product that has received clearance from the US food and drug administration (FDA).

4DMedical stated that it is well-positioned to support the USD20 million VA pilot program should the legislation pass, given its established footprint in the US alongside a portfolio of FDA-cleared software.

What they said: “For many years, 4DMedical has been working to ensure veterans have access to better answers, earlier diagnosis and more effective pathways to treatment,” CEO Andreas Fouras said.

“The entire 4D team stands ready to help the millions of veterans affected by lung disease, and to support the successful implementation of this pilot and progression onto a larger program,” he added.
