The news: The chief financial officer and executive vice president of ASX-listed gold miner Newmont Corporation Karyn Ovelmen resigned on Friday after more than two years in the roles.

The context: The company said in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission that Ovelmen’s departure “was not due to any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, financial statements or accounting policies or practices or disclosures".

She has entered a separation agreement that will pay her six months of her current base salary and six months of medical insurance coverage.

Peter Wexler took over as interim chief financial officer after Ovelmen’s resignation and will remain in the role until a permanent replacement is found.

Wexler joined Newmont in March 2024 as executive vice president and chief legal officer, which he will concurrently serve as.

He previously spent 15 years as Schneider Electric’s chief legal officer before joining the gold miner.
