News Corp promotes Julian Delany to global chief technology officer
The news: News Corp has promoted Julian Delany to executive vice president and chief technology officer of the company’s global operations, after five years as the company’s Australian tech chief.
The context: Delany, who has worked at News Corp Australia for the last 12 years, will replace David Kline in the role after he departs the company at the end of the financial year.
Delany has been chief technology officer of News Corp Australia for the past five years and was credited by the company on Thursday with delivering technical and data alignment across the Australian business.
Delany most recently oversaw the roll out of News Corp Australia’s generative artificial intelligence tool, NewsGPT. Before joining News Corp, Delany worked in broadcast operations at Foxtel.
He will relocate to New York City with his family for the role, the company said.
What they said: “Julian’s rigor and resourcefulness will be crucial assets at a time of exponential digital change. He has vast experience with tech, commercial and editorial teams, and yet has an innate curiosity and enthusiasm that will drive institutional innovation in coming years,” said News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson.
“All who have worked with Julian can attest that his understanding of tech is only exceeded by a confidence-building collegiality that is itself a necessary ingredient in collective creativity.”
