Northern Star appoints former Perseus Mining CEO Jeff Quartermaine to its board
The news: Gold miner Northern Star Resources has appointed former managing director and CEO of rival Perseus Mining Jeff Quartermaine to its board as a non-executive director.
The context: Quartermaine led the miner for 15 years before retiring in September 2025.
When he first joined the company, it had a single asset in Ghana. By the time he left, it had three operating mines across Africa with a fourth under construction and a fifth at a definitive feasibility study stage.
The appointment follows the announcement that Glencore executive Suresh Vadnagra would be appointed CEO, effective 5 October.
The company is currently under threat of acquisition interest after activist investor Elliot Management built a roughly 4% stake in the company and pushed for a sale process.
