NRW Holdings subsidiary Primero wins $157m Rio Tinto contract
The news: NRW Holdings subsidiary Primero Group has been awarded a $157 million contract by mining giant Rio Tinto for work on the Hope Downs 1 sustaining project in Western Australia.
The numbers: The contract, which is scheduled for completion in December 2026, will see Primero oversee the design, supply, installation and construction of non-process infrastructure facilities at the project.
Design and procurement work will begin immediately, with site works expected to start in Q4 2025, once all external approvals have been granted.
The context: Hope Downs, located in the Pilbara region of WA, comprises three major open pit mines, producing high-grade lump and fines iron ore products.
The Hope Downs 1 sustaining project includes the development of the Hope Downs 2 and Bedded Hill Top deposits located in the Hope Downs 1 hub in the East Pilbara.
What they said: "This award represents the continuation of our long-term relationship with Rio Tinto through the delivery of world-class infrastructure projects," said Primero's managing director Michael Gollschewski.
