The news: AI chipmaker Nvidia has opened its annual GTC event by unveiling plans for "personal AI supercomputers", a new platform to "supercharge humanoid robot development", and an "AI-native" wireless network hardware for new 6G networks.

The numbers: Nvidia shares closed 3.4% lower on the Nasdaq, and were last down 0.3% in after-hours trading.

Nvidia's stock is down 14% this year, hit by concerns over the impact of trade wars and a possible recession.

The context: Speaking at the week-long GTC event in California, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said his company is working with Walt Disney Company and Google's DeepMind on a new platform called Isaac GR00T N1 that will "supercharge humanoid robot development.”

Huang also announced a project with General Motors to use AI in next-generation cars, factories and robots.

Meanwhile, he said Nvidia is working with T-Mobile US, Cisco Systems, and others, on using AI hardware in 6G networks, and partnering with Dell and HP to make new personal supercomputer systems.

Elsewhere, Huang announced a successor to Nvidia's flagship AI processor, named the Blackwell Ultra. The new chips are due for release in the second half of 2025, he said, and will be followed by a further upgrade, called Vera Rubin, in late 2026.
