OpenAI in talks to raise $9.7b at $225b valuation: Bloomberg
The news: OpenAI is in talks to raise USD6.5 billion ($9.7 billion) from investors at a pre-investment valuation of USD150 billion ($225 billion), Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the situation.
The numbers: The new valuation, a figure that doesn’t include the money being raised, is significantly higher than the USD86 billion valuation from the company’s tender offer earlier this year.
The ChatGPT maker is also in talks to raise an additional USD5 billion in debt from banks in the form of a revolving credit facility, the report said.
The context: The funding round is expected to be led by Thrive Capital, with OpenAI's largest investor Microsoft — as well as Apple and Nvidia — set to participate.
OpenAI did not comment on the funding talks. The people familiar with the deal noted that the discussions are still ongoing, and the numbers could change.
