Optus faces legal action over 2022 cyberattack

The news: Optus is facing new legal action over its 2022 cyberattack from the media regulator for alleged breaches of the Telecommunications Act.

The context: In the lawsuit first reported by Lawyerly, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) alleged the company "failed to protect the confidentiality of its customers' personal information from unauthorised interference or unauthorised access".

Optus is also facing a class action law suit over the cyberattack before the Federal Court of Australia, as well as an investigation by the privacy regulator.
