Optus full-year earnings up 5.7% as customer base grows

The news: Singtel-owned Optus posted EBITDA growth of 5.7% in the financial year ending March, as well as growth in customer numbers and improved operating revenue.

The numbers: The telco's EBITDA rose to $2.22 billion in FY25, up from $2.1 billion the previous year, while EBIT rose 55% from $288 million to $446 million.

Its operating revenue grew 1.4% from $8.06 billion to $8.18 billion, while operating expenses fell 0.1% from $6.096 billion to $6.091 billion.

Overall mobile revenue, which includes sales of high-end devices and mobile service, grew by 4.4%. Optus added an additional 238,000 mobile customers driven by prepaid growth at amaysim and 52,000 additional postpaid customers.

In the half year ending in March, Optus' wholesale and enterprise and business fixed revenue dropped 5.3% as project-based satellite revenue and fixed revenue both fell.

What they said: “Our mobile results, led by the strong performance of amaysim, show customers are responding to our commitment to offering a range of choices that suit their everyday telco and communication needs,” Optus CEO Stephen Rue said.
