Optus ‘no service’ issue still impacting up to 40,000 customers
The news: Optus has confirmed that up to 40,000 customers could still be experiencing "no service", a widespread problem which commenced on Monday due to a software issue.
The context: Late on Monday evening, an Optus spokesperson confirmed it was aware of a software issue that has resulted in some customers facing “no service” or “SOS” notices on their devices which affected upwards of 100,000 people.
At the time, the spokesperson suggested that customers “restart their phone which will restore their service immediately”. At the time around 60,000 customers were still impacted by a lack of service, which was a "significant reduction” from the number initially affected.
Just after 11:00am AEDT on Tuesday however, a spokesperson confirmed that “around 40,000 customers may still be affected”.
What they said: “The majority of customers have already restored services after restarting their phones. Emergency calls to Triple Zero remain available at all times. We again sincerely apologise to customers,” the Optus spokesperson said.
