The news: Orica chair and former CEO Malcolm Broomhead will leave the board of the ASX-listed chemicals and explosives maker next year, after 10 years in the role.

The numbers: Orica shares edged up 0.4% to $17.46 by 1:15pm AEDT as the company conducted its annual general meeting today.

The context: Broomhead was appointed Orica chair in January 2016, having led the company as managing director and CEO between 2001 and 2005.

Speaking at Orica's AGM, Broomhead said the move was "in accordance with Orica practice" after serving 10 years in the role.

Separately, chief executive and managing director Sanjeev Gandhi said at the AGM that the company "had a good start to the new financial year".

Gandhi said Orica expected demand for its blasting technology, specialty mining chemicals and digital solutions to grow. However, he noted that inflationary pressures, higher energy costs, and increased geopolitical risks remained an ongoing challenge.
