Perenti appoints former South32 COO Vanessa Torres as chief executive

The news: Mining services group Perenti has appointed former South32, BHP and Vale executive Vanessa Torres as its new managing director and CEO.

The context: Torres most recently held the role of chief operating officer at South32, having first joined the diversified miner in 2018. She previously spent 11 years at BHP in a range of senior executive roles in strategy and operations, following a stint at Vale in South and North America.

Torres will succeed Mark Norwell, who has led the company since 2018, following an extensive search process.
