Perenti wins $360 million mining contract from Sandfire
The news: Mining services firm Perenti has secured a contract for Sandfire Resources’ Motheo copper mine in Botswana.
The numbers: As part of the USD235 million ($360 million) contract, Perenti will deliver all surface mining services associated with development and production activities at the A4 open pit of the Motheo mine, over a 73-month period.
The context: Sandfire said pre-production and development work at the mine are expected to start this month. The ASX-listed copper miner has been keen to expand Motheo, which only achieved first commercial production in July. It has also been trying to boost output at the Matsa copper mine in Spain that it acquired in 2021.
