The news: Fund manager Perpetual increased its assets under management (AUM) in the September quarter and reiterated its aim to sell its wealth management business.

The numbers: Perpetual's asset management business reported AUM of $232 billion as at 30 September 2025, an increase of 2.3% from $226.8 billion at 30 June.

The result was driven by favourable market movements and distributions of $9.2 billion, offsetting net outflows of $2.2 billion and negative currency movements of $1.7 billion.

Average AUM was higher at $230.2 billion compared to $222.1 billion in the June quarter.

Perpetual's corporate trust arm saw funds under management (FUA) grow 1.2% quarter on quarter to $1.29 trillion.

Wealth management FUA was up 2% to $21.9 billion, driven by positive market movements of $300 million and net flows of $100 million.

The context: Perpetual CEO and managing director Bernard Reilly called it a "positive quarter", with each of the group's three business lines reporting growth in assets managed, assets under advice or assets under administration.

He noted that global equity markets delivered strong returns for its asset management business, along with a moderation in net outflows relative to the group's preview few quarters.

Reilly confirmed that Perpetual is progressing the sale of its wealth management business, which delivered growth in quarterly funds under advice "despite the uncertainty".

In August, the group reported a net loss of $58.2 million for FY25, weighed down by impairments and costs related to the failed sale of its corporate trust and wealth management divisions in February.
