The news: P&O Cruises Australia has announced that its brand will fold in 2025, with its operations due to be absorbed by sister line Carnival Cruise Line.

The context: After the local brand is retired next year, the British cruise line's Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships will be rebranded and operated by Florida-based Carnival Cruise Line. The company said that all itineraries on its Pacific Explorer scheduled to sail after 2 March 2025 are being cancelled.

P&O has been operating in the region since 1932.

What they said: In a statement on their website, P&O Cruises said: "We are all immensely proud of P&O Cruises Australia’s 90-year heritage of dedicated operations in the region and Carnival Cruise Line are honoured to carry forward its storied legacy and continue to deliver the same onboard experiences and itineraries with the benefit of Carnival Cruise Line HUB app and loyalty program."
