The news: PointsBet chief executive for Australia Andrew Catterall has been appointed as the company’s group chief executive, effective 1 February 2026 subject to customary gaming licensing and regulatory approvals.

The context: Incumbent group CEO Sam Swanell will move into an advisory role in the group and remain on the board as an executive director. He will support the business through a transition and handover period.

Catterall joined PointsBet in 2022 as CEO Australia. Prior to that he served as CEO of Racing.com and also had previous experience at the AFL and Racing Victoria.

PointsBet became a subsidiary of Japanese entertainment business MIXI earlier this year after a protracted takeover battle against ASX-listed bookmaker Betr.

What they said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Sam Swanell for his exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment and deep contribution to PointsBet since founding the Company,” Chairman Brett Paton said.

“Sam has guided PointsBet through every stage of its development and growth, and his continued involvement in an advisory capacity, as well as his ongoing service on the Board, will ensure the business continues to benefit from his insight and experience.”
